This standard is an important technical support for the safety management of outdoor fitness equipment in China. It aims to firmly hold the safety bottom line of outdoor fitness equipment, guide the optimization of the industry's supply - side structure, and meet the needs of the development of national fitness and the industry. In order to better serve the "National Fitness Path" project of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Equipment Center released the first version of "Safety for Outdoor Body - building Equipment - General Requirements" (GB 19272 - 2003) in 2003. For the first time, a unified safety technical specification was established for national fitness path products, ending the situation of no standards to follow and laying the foundation for the development of the industry. Since then, to meet the development of national fitness and the needs of the outdoor fitness equipment industry, the Equipment Center further promoted the revision of the standard and released the second - edition standard (GB 19272 - 2011) in 2011, which significantly improved the requirements for safety, durability, and environmental protection, and significantly enhanced the reliability and service life of the equipment.
The newly released "Safety for Outdoor Body - building Equipment - General Requirements" (GB 19272 - 2024) in 2024 is the second revision of this standard. The new standard comprehensively optimizes on the basis of the 2011 version, clarifying the safety technical requirements for the entire chain of equipment design, production, installation, maintenance, and use. The content covers overall requirements, materials, structural design, functional components, environmental protection, site installation, safety warnings, management and maintenance, and aging - friendly and child - friendly requirements. Compared with the 2011 version, the new standard adds 11 items such as overall requirements, green environmental protection and recyclable material requirements, flat - lying cylindrical space dimensions, aging - friendly, child - friendly, and load calculation methods; deletes 5 items such as naming and packaging; and changes 19 items such as material properties and test methods for harmful substance limits. At the same time, the standard clearly states that it does not apply to amusement facilities, further focusing on the safety of fitness equipment.
In addition, the new standard highlights three characteristics: First, it emphasizes universality. It only stipulates general structures and common requirements without restricting implementation methods, leaving room for industry innovation. Second, it emphasizes functionality. It refines the design of exercise functions, avoids unconventional stress, and ensures scientific fitness. Third, it strengthens care for the elderly and children. New special clauses on "aging - friendly" and "child - friendly" are added to provide technical guarantees for the fitness of the elderly and children.
The implementation of the new standard, on the one hand, will firmly hold the safety bottom line, prevent fitness injuries, and improve the service level of public fitness facilities. On the other hand, it will also help guide enterprises to optimize product design, strengthen process innovation, promote industrial upgrading, and contribute to the high - quality development of the sports goods industry. According to statistics, as of 2024, there are 1.1 million national fitness paths across the country. After the implementation of the new standard, the safety, functionality, and applicability of the equipment will be comprehensively improved, further enhancing the sense of gain, happiness, and security of the people in national fitness.
The implementation of the new standard is not only an important upgrade in industry safety management but also closely aligns with the current national sports industry development strategy. Recently, the executive meeting of the State Council studied the opinions on releasing the potential of sports consumption and further promoting the high - quality development of the sports industry. The meeting pointed out that developing the sports industry and sports consumption is an important part of implementing the strategy of expanding domestic demand. A series of measures should be taken, such as increasing the supply of sports products, enriching sports events, and promoting the upgrading of sports goods. Against this background, the implementation of the new standard comes at the right time. It not only firmly holds the safety bottom line for outdoor fitness equipment but also boosts the quality and efficiency of the sports goods manufacturing industry, further stimulating new demands for sports consumption and providing a solid support for the high - quality development of the sports industry.
Recently, the publicity and implementation activity of the new national standard for outdoor fitness equipment, guided by the Mass Sports Department of the General Administration of Sport of China and organized by the Equipment Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the National Technical Committee for Sports Standardization, was held in Beijing. Nearly 200 people from national scientific research institutes, industry associations, certification bodies, testing institutions, and production enterprises participated in this activity. Since then, Hebei, Shandong, and other provinces with industrial clusters of outdoor fitness equipment manufacturing have also successively carried out relevant publicity and implementation activities. Across the country, efforts are being actively made to promote the implementation of the new national standard.
The formal implementation of the new standard marks a new stage in the safety management of outdoor fitness equipment in China and will also provide a solid guarantee for building a higher - level public service system for national fitness and accelerating the construction of a sports power.
