  The new mandatory national standard Safety Requirements for Indoor Stationary Fitness Equipment (GB 47368-2026), together with nine supporting recommended national standards, is scheduled to be officially implemented on October 1, 2027. Building on international ISO 20957 series specifications, the upgraded standard system comprehensively tightens requirements for mechanical structure safety, electrical performance, environmental protection materials, safety labeling and product instructions, covering treadmills, strength training equipment, exercise bikes, rowing machines, training benches and all mainstream indoor stationary fitness equipment for both commercial and household scenarios.

  Facing the upcoming regulatory upgrade, domestic fitness equipment manufacturers have officially entered the compliance preparation window. Most leading enterprises have launched full-scale product iteration, prototype testing, structural optimization and process rectification to meet the new national standard requirements in advance.

Key Upgrades of the New Standards

2. New hazardous substance control regulations

For the first time, the standards systematically limit harmful substances in surface contact materials of fitness equipment, including lead, cadmium, phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. All plastic parts, foam cushions and coating materials need professional testing, driving the overall upgrading of raw material supply chains.

3. Optimized electrical safety specifications

Updated rules for leakage current, insulation strength, power cord configuration and overload protection are applied to intelligent aerobic fitness devices. Main control boards and motor components of smart fitness equipment are included in stricter safety testing scope to eliminate electric leakage and fire hazards.

4. Standardized warning labels and product manuals

Unified specifications for safety warning marks and instruction content are issued, covering emergency stop operation reminders, child access prohibition and limitations of heart rate monitoring functions, ensuring standardized and comprehensive safety guidance for users.

Industry Compliance Trends

With a one-year preparation period remaining, industry experts suggest manufacturers sort out existing product designs, complete raw material environmental testing and full-machine type tests, and update product nameplates, warning stickers and bilingual manuals in advance.

After the official implementation of the new standards, market supervision will be further strengthened, and non-compliant products will be phased out of the market.
